Nelson, New Zealand
Today, although cloudy and exhausting, brought about beautiful views and new adventures. We are currently staying in Nelson and commuting from the city to our daily adventures. On our first full day in Nelson, we drove a little over two hours out through Abel Tasman National Park, and along the coast to Golden Bay. Golden Bay is a bay near the norther tip of the South Island. There is just one road that goes in and out of Golden Bay and takes you across numerous different beaches, viewpoints, and several short hikes.
We drove all the way to the furthest tip to Wharariki Beach, where we hiked over green pastures, walked alongside sheep, on top of ridges and through trees before reaching the vast beach. We were the only people on the entire beach. I have never felt so small in this vastness of the nature around me. We walked up to the water, peaked in teh caves, and walked along the freezing sand before returning back to the car. The pictures displayed here do the views no justice.
Between Wharariki Beach and our place back in Nelson, we stopped along several deserted yet absolutely breathtaking pull offs and beaches, as well as for coffee in the cute, hippy town of Takaka.
Stayed tuned for our second day in Nelson.
