Te Anau, New Zealand
Key Summit, on the renowned Routeburn Track, is arguably the best day walk in Fiordlands Kiwi’s say. This hike combines stunning rainforests, alpine scenery and panoramic mountain views this walk has it all. This trail, en route to Milford Sound is a must-do if you have a few hours on your hand either after your boat tour or on another day.
For Lauren and I, we did it on our second day in Milford Sound/Fiordlands.
The hike gains an elevation of 400 metres, and near the top after a series of zig zags, we emerged from the forest into the alpine environment. There, we were enamored by panoramic views of high snowy peaks, alpine lakes, and deep bush valleys. Words really fail to describe the natural beauty and panoramic views. Once at the top, definitely opt to do the 30 minute Nature Reserve Walk, it is a short walk at the tip of the summit that displays views that are simply spectacular.
